Kansanshi Mining Promotes Safety Awareness with Mr THINK Statue
Kansanshi Mining Plc, in its commitment to ensuring safety and fostering a culture of safety awareness among its employees, has introduced a significant symbol at the Boom Gate. Named Mr THINK, the statue serves as a constant reminder to every employee about the paramount importance of safety. Mr THINK represents the following THINK acronyms:
T – Take the time H – Highlight the Hazard I – Identify what could go wrong N – Necessary actions to be taken K – Keep Safety First
In addition to the foundational THINK safety program, Kansanshi Mining Plc launched a campaign called “My Reason to THINK” (MRTT). This initiative urges employees to reflect on the crucial and personal reasons in their lives to prioritize safety and well-being, both at work and in their homes.
Marking the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, under the theme “A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work,” Kansanshi Mining Plc General Manager, Anthony Mukutuma, unveiled the Mr THINK statue. During the event, Mr Mukutuma emphasized the importance of making safety a top priority.
“A safe and healthy workplace is not achieved merely by words written on the walls. It requires aligning our behaviors with that aspiration. Speaking up and refusing to perform an unsafe task until it is made safe are key components,” said Mr Mukutuma.
He reiterated that safety transcends everything else in the workplace. He encouraged employees to adopt the My Reason to Think principle, a safety campaign that the mining company has been running since last year.
“Your right to safety is paramount, and it surpasses all other aspects of our work. This prominent statue serves as a constant reminder that safety takes precedence over production, maintenance, and other activities,” added Mr Mukutuma.
Kansanshi Mining Plc Safety Manager, Teza Kasengele, urged workers to exercise their right to safety and contribute to creating a secure working environment.
Justine Mpesa, FQMO Safety Manager, praised the management for their unwavering support in enhancing safety across all workplaces.
The event concluded with Safety Superintendent Mr Bemba Ng’andu expressing gratitude to all employees and business partners in attendance, encouraging them to continue working safely.
